» PROJECT BRIEFThroughout the semester, we had learned the art and master of Screen-Printing. In the class we had various assignments and color restrictions, ranging from black and white portraits, all the way to three color abstraction pieces. This sections shows these pieces off, and goes into depth with each piece.

PROJECT 1: ONE COLOR BLACK & WHITE PORTRAIT

SNAKES OF SOLILOQUY: A 12 edition series of screen-prints, 'Snakes of Soliloquy' is a Medusa inspired one color black and white piece. The assignment was for a black and white portrait of our choice; I wanted to go outside the realm of traditional portraiture, which typically lie in a vertical sized canvas. I wished to step outside of that and to add my love of horror art into my style, and did a landscape portrait inspired by Medusa; I wanted her to be gazing longingly at the camera view with a lonely visage. For due to Medusa turning to stone whomever she lays her eyes on, I think in this sense of a frozen moment in time, it really showcases the sincerity of the loneliness she would feel.

PROJECT 2: TWO-COLOR NARRATIVE

ICARUS' (MALE) LOVER: A series of 7 edition. A two piece narrative assignment, I wanted to play on the story of Icarus, and his love for the sun; in the aftermath, a lover of his cradling the broken wings of his burnt out lover on his own shoulders alike an angel cradling its broken wings. I wanted to give a vulnerable view of the lover to show this sense of loss - both in the view but also the color accent choice of the blood on the black, only in this place - and this sense of hurt and bleeding. It's a more angsty sentimental piece, but I really overall enjoyed the color choice as well as the detail I was able to add to it.

PROJECT 3: THREE-COLOR ABSTRACTION

TALE OF THE NINE-TAILED: Series of 7 edition. A three color abstraction piece, we were tasked with this three color print at the same time as a secondary three color landscape piece. Both of which we were challenged to not either use black at all, or to only use it as a secondary accent color, especially given the prints we had produced throughout the semester up until that point. For this piece I wanted to keep on the theme oy mythos, this time working with the Korean myth of the Gumiho's, or well-known as the nine-tailed fox.  I wanted to give it a crystalline feeling, since Gumiho's tend to be that of mountain spirits, and when I think of mountains, I think of crystals and the powerful gems that reside in the earth, so I wished to do something with an ethereal feeling to it. The color choice, the pink and the light blue, were purely used for aesthetic purposes.

PROJECT 5 / FINAL: CHOICE

DRAGON DUYI.jpg

THE EARTH GUARIDAN YE DUYI: A final project of choice for both design, the colors, and number of colors, I had to decided to base my final design off of one of the characters I'm writing in my prose novel named Ye Duyi. In this design, it is depicting Ye Duyi in a canon divergence storyline in which he is a great and gallant dragon Guardian of ancient Korea. Lore based on Korean dragons.
